This idyllic mountain village at the foot of the Matterhorn has developed into one of the biggest summer and winter resorts. There are no motorised vehicles in Zermatt. Besides electrically-powered cars and bicycles, the only form of transport allowed is horse-drawn sleighs and carriages.

38 of Europe's 76 four-thousand-metre peaks are in the area surrounding Zermatt. Zermatt's ski area is connected to the ski area of Cervinia (Italy) via the Theodul pass (3,300m.) and the Testa Grigia (3'480m.).

Zermatt is the ideal destination to enjoy a short break and be completely connected with nature. No matter which season Zermatt offers a variety of sport activities like hiking, skiing, climbing and much more.

In Zermatt there are 116 hotels of all standards with a total of 6800 beds. Every guest who would like to spend his holidays in Zermatt has the possibility to find accomodation to his taste. The Zermatt hotels consist largely of traditional family hoteliers; even nowadays most of the hotels are run by the owner. Zermatt has luxury and first class hotels with style and tradition to offer to guests who are accustomed to elegant comfort. A large number of middle category hotels form the largest section of Zermatt hospitality, offering atmosphere and a high standard of comfort. There is also a selection of friendly and simple small hotels.

Guests who prefer to stay in the mountain area can find many hotels and mountain chalets in the surroundings of Zermatt, some of which are accessible by cable car, others only on foot.
